Endowment Committee Grants

The UUCB Endowment Committee is responsible for granting funds for projects in five broad categories: capital improvements to Church property, community outreach programs, education, wider missions (for example, UUSC), and other charitable purposes. However, the Committee does not decide on its own what grants to make. Rather, it is driven entirely by suggestions from members of the Congregation, which are made in the form of grant applications.

The grant application process is simple. Any member of the Congregation may complete an application form, available in the Church Office or online at www.uubinghamton.org, on behalf of any cause and submit it by placing it in the “Endowment” folder in the Church Office or e-mail it to Anne Taft. Here are just a few examples of previous grants: support for the beautiful gardens on the Church property; help Planned Parenthood complete their new building; facilitate a series of Self-Empowerment for Women workshops.

This year’s deadline for applications is January 31, 2012. Grant award decisions will be made and the associated funds will be available by March 31.

The 2012 Endowment Grant Application is now available.

Mission and Purpose

The Endowment Committee provides the leadership for the management and expansion of endowment, the income from which is used to make grants for general or restricted purposes of the Congregation, its committees and individuals. Besides income from unrestricted endowed gifts, which would be available to the Board of Trustees for general needs of the Congregation, endowed gifts may be restricted to Capital Improvements, Grants for the RE Program, Community Outreach Programs and Global Human Rights Advocacy Programs.

Elected from the Congregation at large, Committee members oversee endowment fund raising activities and fund investments. The Committee meets periodically. Congregational members interested in serving on the Committee should make their interest known to the Chairman of the Committee and/or the Congregational Nominating Committee Chairman.
